What we collect

When you visit The Best Robot Vacuums we record page views and clicks on product links, together with the campaign parameters in the address you arrived on (including the click identifier the advertising platform adds), your browser and device type, and the pages you saw. We store a hashed form of your IP address; the raw address is never written to disk.

We also use Google Analytics, which receives the same kind of information (the pages you view, how you arrived, your browser and device type, and an approximate location) and reports it to us in aggregate. Its advertising features are switched off, so what it collects here is not used to show you ads. Cookies

With your permission we set two first-party cookies: a visitor id valid for one year and a session id valid for thirty minutes. They connect the pages you read to the links you click. With the same permission Google Analytics sets two cookies of its own, whose names begin with _ga, which let it recognise a returning browser for up to two years. A further cookie, "consent", remembers your answer for six months so we do not ask again. We do not use advertising cookies and we do not fingerprint devices. If you reject cookies, or never answer, neither our cookies nor Google's are set, Google Analytics counts the visit without them, and the site works exactly the same.

How we use it

To measure which campaigns and products perform, to detect abuse of our links, and to improve the guides. When a purchase follows one of our links, Amazon or the affiliate network we work with reports it to us, and we may pass that purchase, with the click identifier from the ad you arrived through, back to the advertising platform that sent you here so it can measure its ads. That report carries the click identifier and the purchase, not your name.

Your choices

The notice asks once and your answer is kept for six months. To change it, clear this site's cookies in your browser and the notice will ask again; rejecting means no visitor, session or Google Analytics cookie is set. Your browser's Global Privacy Control signal is honoured as a rejection. Google's opt-out browser add-on stops Google Analytics on every site.
